Where to go for sport
The first physical training organisation in Mariánské Lázně was founded in 1883 but a long time before that various sports such as horse ridding, hiking and pistol shooting were held here.
Golf
21st August 1905 the golf course in Mariánské Lázně was opened and the first founding member was King Edward VII, king of England. Nowadays the Golf Club organises numerous tournaments, namely of world amateur competitions as well as a tournament for professionals of the Volvo Tour (the first professional tournament in post-communist world).
In 2003 Queen Elizabeth II awarded the Golf Club in Mariánské Lázně with the prestige title of a Royal Golf Club.
Tennis
A tennis centre ‘U Lesního pramene’ with 5 clay courts and 2 hall courts with an artificial surface is situated circa 400 m from the centre of Mariánské Lázně, nearby the road leading to the natural reserve Kladská and close to the hotel Střelnice. The tennis centre offers ideal conditions for preparation and recreation as well as for professional players.
The Tennis Club in Anglická street was founded in 1930s. From that time the whole centre has undergone numerous changes to reach its present appearance. Nowadays it is possible to use nine clay courts. During wintertime there is at the disposal an inflatable tennis hall. The Galey Cup (junior analogy of the Davis Cup) is regularly organised and held here.
Skiing
Mariánské Lázně and its surrounding offer very good conditions for lovers of winter sports. A number of marked routes in the area of ‘Slavkovský les’, or adapted routes in the area of the local golf course are used during the winter months for classical skiing. For lovers of down hill skiing there is a newly renovated ski slope with ski lifta and cableway in the Ski Centre.
Walking
Mariánské Lázně is situated in the protected landscape area ‘Slavkovský les’. The whole area territory of the landscape protected area is interwoven with a net of marked walking routes, which offer tourists many interesting destinations. A part of marked walking routes can also be used by lovers of cycling and during wintertime, by cross-country skiers.
Cyclo-tourism
Mariánské Lázně and its surrounding offer ideal conditions for lovers of cycling. A large number of marked cycling routes in the Teplá region are connected to cycling routes of Euro-region Egrensis and they attract tourists who would like to get to know the surrounding nature or various historic places of interest.
Horse-riding
The horse-riding company is situated in the area by the hotel Krakonoš. It provides training lessons for beginners and rides for advanced riders.
Yachting
Lovers of water sports are attracted by the 60-hectare water area of the Regent pond, which is situated 7 km from Mariánské Lázně. There is a commonroom with a fireplace, spacious boat-yard, huts and playground in the area of the local yachting club.
